John Fowler is a professor in the operations research and production systems group in the Department of Industrial Engineering in the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at ASU. Fowler received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1982, 1986 and 1990, respectively.
Fowler came to the Fulton School in 1995 as an assistant professor. Previously, he had served as an adjunct assistant professor in the mechanical engineering department at the University of Texas and as a visiting assistant professor at Texas A&M.
Fowler began his career in industry in 1986 at Lodestone II, Inc. as a simulation analyst. He has also served as a project manager at Advanced Micro Devices, a senior member of the technical staff at SEMATECH and a consultant to Tefen, USA.
Fowler's research interests are in modeling and analysis of semiconductor manufacturing systems, scheduling of water fabrication facilities, and manufacturing applications of operations research and discrete event simulation.
Fowler has served as a guest editor and on the editorial board for the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Transactions on Scheduling and Logistics . He is currently serving as an associate editor of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Transactions on Electronic Packaging Manufacturing Technology and as the manufacturing applications area editor for SIMULATION: Transactions of the Society for Modeling and Simulation International .
Fowler is a member of the IIE, the Institute of Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the Society for Computer Simulation, Production and Operations Management Society, the IEEE, the Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturers International, the American Society for Engineering Education and the Decision Sciences Institute.
