Overview
Goals
The goal of this research is to apply AI(artificial intelligence) to molecular biology. Specifically, how can we use AI to aquire knowledge of molecular biology and what conclusions can we reach by reasoning with this knowledge?
Artificial Intelligence
An intelligent entity learns through experience and observations, reading of natural language text, and from discussions with other intelligent entities. It also has the capabilities to use this knowledge to reason through problems and formulate explanations. Biological knowledge can be gained through direct observation, information extraction methods of written works, and from collaborative discussions of relevent biological information.
Reasoning
Using the learned biological knowledge it is possible to reason about various interactions including prediction the side effects from drugs, designing drug therapys, and explaining unusual cell behavior. It is also possible to use the learned biological knowledge to reason regarding the consistency of Ontologies, and reason about other interactions, such as gene disease relationships, and drug disease predictions.
