Regents' Professor
Douglas
C. Montgomery is a
Regents' Professor in the Department of Industrial
Engineering in the Ira
A. Fulton School of Engineering
at ASU. Montgomery received
his B.S.I.E., M.S. and
Ph.D. from the Virginia
Polytechnic Institute.
Prior to coming to ASU,
Montgomery held the John
M. Fluke Distinguished
Chair in Engineering,
was the Director of Industrial
Engineering and Professor
of Mechanical Engineering
at the University of Washington
in Seattle. He has previously
served as a professor,
associate and assistant
professor at the Georgia
Institute of Technology.
Montgomery has professional
and research interests
in industrial statistics,
including design of experiments,
quality control, applications
of linear models, and
time series analysis and
forecasting. He has lectured
extensively throughout
the Americas, Europe and
the Far East. He has been
a Visiting Professor of
Engineering at the Monterey
Institute of Technology
in Monterey, Mexico, and
a University Distinguished
Visitor at the University
of Manitoba. Montgomery
has conducted sponsored
research with The Office
of Naval Research, the
National Science Foundation,
and the United States
Army.
Montgomery is an author
of ten textbooks that
have appeared in over 30 English
editions and numerous
foreign languages. He
is currently serving as
the editor of Quality
and Reliability Engineering
International and
as the associate editor
of Naval Research
Logistics. He has
previously served as editor of the Journal
of Quality Technology.
He has also previously
served as the editor of
Applied Probability
and Statistics Department and as the editor of Quality
and Reliability Engineering
Department for IIE Transactions.
Montgomery is currently
a member of the editorial
board of the Journal
of Quality Technology,
the Journal of Applied
Statistics, Quality Engineering,
the Journal of Probability
and Statistical Science,
and the International
Journal of Production
Research.
Montgomery has industrial
experience which includes
engineering assignments
with Union Carbide Corporation
and Eli Lilly and Company.
He also has extensive
consulting experience
with many national and
international organizations.
Montgomery is a Fellow
of the American Society
for Quality Control, a
Fellow of the American
Statistical Association,
a Fellow of the Royal
Statistical Society, a
Fellow of the Institute
of Industrial Engineers,
and an Elected Member
of the International Statistical
Institute. He has held
several national offices
in ASQC, ASA, and IIE.
He is a member of the
honorary societies Phi
Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, Mu
Sigma Rho, and Alpha Pi
Mu. He is a recipient
of the Shewhart Medal,
the William G. Hunter
Award, the Brumbaugh Award,
and a two-time recipient
of the Shewell Award from
the American Society for
Quality Control. He also
received the Ellis R.
Ott Award. He has received
several outstanding teaching
awards, including the
Arizona State University
Engineering College Graduate
Teaching Excellence Award
in 1994.
