Civil and Environmental Engineering
The Exploration and Discovery Signature Research Theme provides the structure for investigating new and exciting multidisciplinary opportunities when they are at the formative stages at ASU. A prime example is the recently established ASU School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE). The goal of SESE is for a better understanding of the universe and the world we live in. Engineering School researchers contribute to SESE projects in the areas of systems engineering, geological remote sensing, lunar orbiting technology and mapping.
Additional emerging focus areas under the Exploration and Discovery theme include applied mathematics, solar energy, complexity and smart materials for aircraft. The recently established Center for Adaptive, Intelligent, Materials and Systems studies novel embedded sensors and damage control techniques for assessing the structural health of materials. The NASA Space Grant Program, a university-wide collaboration, offers education, training and outreach in space flight research. Fulton School researchers provide expertise while promoting student awareness of the program’s diverse resources and opportunities.
