Q: Where do I fill out my time card?
A: If you are a Graduate Research Assistant or Graduate Intern you do not need to turn in a time card to the ECC office. If you are an Undergraduate Student Intern, a time card is sent via email each pay period with the due date. The student emails his completed time card to his supervisor who approves it and returns it to the ECC office by the due date and time provided.
Q: Where do I get my paycheck?
A: As an EIP Intern/RA, you are employed by ASU; therefore, you do not get a paycheck from your sponsor! Your paycheck is issued by ASU. You must sign up for direct deposit (see below) upon signing an offer letter with EIP:
Q: How to I make a direct deposit of my paychecks?
You can download the "request for direct deposit" form and submit it to Human Resource Department along with a void check.
Q: What kind of forms I need to fill out in order to complete the hiring process?
A: A "new employee payroll packet " containing the necessary forms can be picked up. These forms are also available through at the ASU Human Resource Department at http://www.asu.edu/hr/forms/index.html or http://www.asu.edu/hr/forms/index.html#alpha_n
Q: What are my responsibilities as an intern in EIP?
A: Your sponsor company will outline your duties and responsibilities. The EIP requires you to carry 12 academic credits in the fall and spring and work 20 hours per week. In the summer semester you are obligated to work 40 hours per week, but carry no academic credits. You are also required to do a work summary report and attend at least one mandatory meeting during the semester.
Q: Can a student intern work overtime?
No. University policy does not permit overtime payments.
Q: How many hours can a student intern work at a corporate sponsor?
EIP students can work:
Up to 20 hours per week for a total of 340 hours
for undergraduate students and 360 hours for graduate students during the Fall and Spring Semesters.
Up to 40 hours per week for a total of 480 hours during the Summer Semester.
Q: What are the dates during which summer interns can work?
Summer Semester is May16 - August15.
Fall Semester is August16 - December31.
Spring Semester is January 1 - May15.
Note that these dates provide more weeks than needed to reach the total work hours. This allows both the student and company flexibility in meeting the required hours.
