Internships
Internships allow students to learn new skills, to make contacts in industries that interest them and to develop ideas for projects and papers in their courses. Undergraduates have the opportunity to participate in summer and academic year internships through several programs in the college:
- The Engineering Career Center (ECC) is a school-level unit that serves students and industry with technical internship needs, in addition to full-time job placements and other career services. The Engineering Internship Program (EIP) is a special industry-sponsored internship service coordinated by the Center.
- The Del E. Webb School of Construction internship program is an integral part of its undergraduate curriculum. All students must complete two summer internships prior to graduation. The first internship is the summer after their sophomore year. The emphasis is on activity out in the field and learning the day to day operations on a construction site. The second internship, the summer after their junior year, focuses on the different management roles within the company. Each internship has a minimum of 400 hours and is a graded course.
- The Harrington Department of Bioengineering offers three internship programs: industrial, clinical and prosthetic. All offer students hands-on experience at a local company or medical facility either part time during the academic year or full time in the summer.
- The Consortium for Embedded and Internetworking Technologies (CEINT) matches students with both part-time and full-time internships with the consortium’s industry members.
- The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Internship Program provides part-time and full-time internships to give students a real-world experience in computer science industries.
