Fulton New Student Orientation
Congratulations! We are looking forward to making the graduation convocation a memorable event for you and your guests. The following information is provided to answer the questions that you might have regarding the ceremony and make it an enjoyable day for you.
Anyone graduating has to apply for graduation though graduate office.
RSVP
RSVP is required for both you and your guests. Please RSVP no later than April 25, 2008 if you are attending Engineering Convocation.
Guests
You may invite as many guests as you wish, tickets are not required. Don't forget to RSVP for your guests at the above site. Due to space limitations and for security reasons, family members and friends are not allowed in the student assembly area or on the floor of the arena at any time. There is plenty of space in the seating area for family.
Cap & Gown
All candidates are required to wear an official ASU cap and gown. These are available at the ASU bookstore (480) 965-3191.

Length of Ceremony
The ceremony is estimated to be 2 hours, if you are planning a party after the ceremony, don't forget to count for the time it will take you to get out of the area. There will be few thousand happy family members leaving at the same time you are.
Parking
Guests parking will be available in Lot 59 and parking structure 5. Lot 58 (east of Wells Fargo Arena) has been reserved for disabled parking See map of campus.
Bachelor's and Master's Degree Candidates
Bachelor's and master's degree candidates should check in 45 minutes before the ceremony starts at the east entrance of the Wells Fargo Arena at where they will receive instructions regarding the processional.
Bachelor's and master's degree candidates assemble in the east lobby on the upper concourse. Candidates are lined up by academic major. Seating within each academic unit is not alphabetical, you may sit with friends within your major.
Doctoral Degree Candidates
Ph.D. candidates should arrive by 45 minutes before the start of the ceremony, go though the west tunnel and gather in room 41 (located on the lower level of the Wells Fargo Arena).
Ph.D. candidates will be hooded by their advisors. Please invite your advisor to the ceremony. If your advisor cannot attend the ceremony, contact Kristín Ólafs, so that other arrangements can be made.
All Ph.D. candidates and their respective advisors will line up in the west tunnel for the procession.
Your Name will be read
When you arrive at Wells Fargo Arena, you will be handed a readers card, write on it your name, phonetic spelling of your name and your address. As students walk onto the stage, this card will be collected and students name will be read as they cross the stage.
Procession
The graduates enter the Wells Fargo Arena ahead of platform members i.e. deans, faculty members, and guest speaker. Once all graduates have processed into the arena, please remain standing until platform members are seated on the stage. The protocol for the processional is for the graduates to face the center aisle as the platform members walk to the platform stage.
Recession
At the conclusion of the convocation ceremony we ask you to refrain from tossing the mortar boards in the air for your own safety and the safety of other graduates. The lights above you are very hot and may break if hit by graduates' caps. Students will recess from Wells Fargo Arena from the West Tunnel. Family members and friends can meet graduates on the north side of Wells Fargo Arena.
Diploma Covers
Diploma covers will be handed out to master students and undergraduate students at convocation. If you can't make it to the ceremony you can e-mail your name and address with a requests of one being mailed to your home. Send this requests after the ceremony, only e-mails that arrive after the ceremony will be processed. Diploma Covers.
PhD students will recieve their diploma covers from the Graduate College, please contact them if you are unable to attend the University Commencement where PhD diploma covers are handed out. Graduate College.
Photography
Chappell Studio will take professional photographs of all degree candidates as they approach the stage ramp and as they receive personal congratulations from the dean. Graduates will get proofs and a price list in 7-10 days by mail.
Flowers
Congratulatory flowers will be sold in the Wells Fargo Arena lobby prior to the ceremony. A portion of the flower sale proceeds will go to Tau Beta Pi honor society.
Video Production
Great Video Productions will offer the video and DVD of convocation for sale. Please watch for the flyer at the Wells Fargo Arena on the day of the event for ordering information or contact Great Viedo Production at (480) 940-9678 or e-mail.
Parking
Disabled parking is available at Wells Fargo Arena (lot 58). A disabled card in the front window or license plate is required to park in these areas.
Seating
Disabled Seating is reserved for disabled guests and is available on a first-come, first serve basis. One additional guest may be seated in this area to accompany a disabled guest.
Sign Language
American Sign Language Interpreters will be on stage for the ceremony. The ASL interpreters will be on the left hand side of the stage as you face the stage.
Wheelchairs
A limited number of wheelchairs will be available at the north entrance on the main concourse of the arena on a first-come, first-served basis. A picture ID is required, preferably a driver's license. Chairs must be returned within 30 minutes of the ceremony's conclusion and cannot leave the building.
